The Most Dangerous Place in Manila: The Bus

The bus continues to be the most dangerous place in Manila where crimes range from
oral defamation of passenger to conductor, and vice versa,
to bribery,
extortion,
petty theft,
sexual assault,
hostage takings,
and bombings.

This month, I have encountered multiple counts of robberies inside the bus.

I'm surprised with the items being robbed from passengers though.

A precious iPhone 4 being used for chitchat on a bus ride.
A 38 thousand (roll eyes) worth bracelet.
A gold watch.
A diamond necklace.

And I ask, with all due respect...WHY THE FUCK ARE THESE INSIDE THE BUS?

We do not want to prosecute the victims and inflict further pain. But we must remember that there are reasons why people get robbed. Being non-robbers, to eliminate most of those reasons should be one of our goals.

To create additional reason, like say, opportunity, is a crucial mistake.

Public transportation is for the common people. Most of us here most probably will use our money for something more substantial than a precious iPhone 4 being used for chitchat on a bus ride, a 38 thousand (roll eyes again) worth bracelet, a gold watch or a diamond necklace.

If you deny being among the common people, please do not use our form of transportation. Because if you would rather show that you are among the upper class of society, you make yourself an instant target.

Be reminded that Robinhood steals in pursuit of equal distribution of wealth.

Realize that by wagging wealth in public, we inspire these robbers to pursue their line of work.

Yes, we would like to have them caught and persecuted. We would like to have better implementation of laws and a faster judicial system. Yada, yada, yada...

At the end of the day, we have to face the truth that we have poor implementation of laws, slow and/or lazy law enforcement officials and expensive yet Pong Pagong judicial system.

The government cannot protect us. We have to protect ourselves.

It's a cruel world. Let us all be wise, vigilant and practical.
