On the film Heneral Luna and questions about Mabini...

I think the biggest disappointment on the audience who asked about Mabini is not that they do not know who he is, or why he is always seated or that he is not Andres Bonifacio. The bigger disappointment is that this is a film that should have inspired people to read, that should have made people more interested in the story of our nation. The disappointment lies not on the fact that some people do not know; the disappointment is mostly on people not bothering to find out.

I'm not sure why there were these questions because I think the most popular thing about Mabini is that he can't walk. We can't however say that those who don't know that Mabini can't walk know nothing about history just as we can't say that those who know that he can't walk knows a lot about history.

There are so many posts online bashing those who asked questions. Yet, are we so sure that these bashers knew about this before the question came up? For all we know, some of those who are so aggressive in pointing out that they know the answer may have just googled Mabini.

It may be a way to discourage asking questions without trying to find the answer on their own first but, the trouble is, it can also be a way to discourage asking questions entirely.

I think there is a need for humility from those who think they know a lot. We must seek to educate instead of ridicule those who don't know.

I fear that this culture of belittling those who know less will create a bigger problem of people not asking questions and, instead, pretending to know what they don't.
